Giggles for Okidokie
Okidokie, our FEI dressage horse, is stall bound for 6 months. He was going fantastic this spring and to make a long story short, had to have arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder. Hence the lay off. The good news is that the surgery went great and you'd never know he ever had it (except for the shaved part on his shoulder). The worse part (for Oki) was when he couldn't eat right before and after surgery. He couldn't sort out what was going on. The other thing Oki can't figure out is why he's not working. Oki LOVES his job and hates being out of work. Heck, he'd get irradiated not working after one day off so this is a real challenge. So we've been hard at work keeping him from going crazy. We took out a stall wall and made him an extra big stall so he could move around and look out different sets of windows. Len also got him a "giggle" ball from the Tractor and Farm Supply store. This ball makes all kinds of funny noises. We didn't know if Oki would be scared of it. We gave it to him yesterday and he plays with it all the time. The other horses in the barn are trying to figure out what is going on. We imagine him rolling the ball around his stall in the middle of the night just to annoy all the other horses.
